Somebody recommended El Burrito Jr. to me recently and I can't remember who it was. Then I got a contract position working in Torrance and on my very first day there a co-worker suggested going to El Burrito Jr. for lunch. It must be fate, huh? Well, if fate designed it then fate wanted me to find out that El Burrito Jr. is almost exactly like Super Mex. Very similar menu, the same unbroken tostadas served with salsa, the same Orange bang and other beverages, and the same propensity to serve all burritos wet. And, like Super Mex, it is fast-food-type food served.
My co-worker got the two enchilada platter, one with shredded beef and one with ground beef and was satisfied with his "food for fuel:"
I ordered the shrimp and fish ceviche and thought it was going to be about half the size that it turned out to be. Pretty fresh and worth the $4 and I had some to eat the next day:
My entree was a burrito, and while I don't normally get burritos I thought this was the item that had been recommended to me. What I thought I was ordering was a regular (not wet) burrito with ground beef, cheese and green sauce inside. What I ended up getting was a wet burrito with shredded beef and the green sauce and cheese on the outside:
Serviceable and at least free from gristle.
This place is nothing amazing and doesn't pretend to be. Can't fault it for living up to its average expectations. El Burrito Jr. also has another location in Torrance as well as spots in Lomita and Redondo Beach. Click on any photo above to be taken to the complete flickr album page.
